A couple a months ago I had a very cool gig in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, Highland Park, which is basically the Beverly Hills of Dallas. Honestly, I had such a nice weekend there, great hotel with a killer rooftop bar, Barry's Bootcamp down the street, a great suite, and of course, good barbecue. It was my first time djing in Dallas. The theme of the party was ABBA 70s for a sweet 16! Think 70s GLAM meets ultra pink Malibu Barbie.
There was a full band paired with ABBA tribute singers. I opened up the party, djing the bday girl's favorite music, from Harry Styles to Elton John to Tyler the Creater. After djing an hour cocktail hour, a full string quartet, sax, and trumpet joined me on stage to play a set for the next hour.
One of the coolest things, is that I was playing on a Pioneer DJ mixer signed by the rap legend himself, Doug E. Fresh, the Human Beat Box, leader of the iconoclastic Get Fresh Crew. It felt nice to think that he gave me his blessing and maybe the inspiration of his talent for that one special evening. As my set ended, the full band took over as they were joined by ABBA dancers. It was such a great, fun night, shared with a bunch of exciting sixteen-year old's who were ready to party.
The event was completely customized, right down to my make-up and outfit. Thanks for having me Dallas!
